Bath's most central vineyard, growing and selling local Sparkling Wines of England
Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier are the stars of our vineyard. They have coped with the unusual British weather since planting in 2023, and we're busy ensuring they thrive.
Our first harvest took place in September 2025. In the meantime we have launched our Prelude Edition of Sparkling Wines, made from grapes locally grown in Somerset and Wiltshire. Follow us on instagram for regular updates @tennygrove_vineyard
When Ally and Rupert were house hunting near Bath the agent casually let slip that the farm land at Upper Shockerwick had been analysed and was considered perfect for an English vineyard. Having watched the movie 'A Good Year' at least annually for a decade, Ally and Rupert were captivated.
Once they had unpacked, they arranged for the hill farm, previously only used for grazing, to be analysed for elevation, sunlight hours, weather factors, soil type and general grape growing potential. With a near perfect pH and protection from the wind, they chose the field next to the farmhouse.
After permission from Natural England was granted and deer fencing procured, a team arrived in May 2023 to hand plant over 4,000 vines into the native English grassland without disturbing the local flora.
Ally's great love for Blanc de Blanc champagne led to a majority planting of Chardonnay, with a mix of Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier to add variety and flavour options.
Whilst Ally and Rupert are busy growing their own grapes, in a fit of impatience they decided to buy in some local grape juice, all from local vineyards in Somerset and Wiltshire.
Working with the winemaker at Furleigh Estate, they have overseen the finishing of four delicious sparkling wines, that they were delighted to launch to market in Autumn 2025.
Their Tennygrove Vineyard Prelude Edition wines are all made from local Somerset & Wiltshire grapes is now available for purchase, with pre-booked group tastings available from Easter 2026.
With a lot of hard work and some good English weather, we're anticipating some seriously amazing sparkling and still English wines from Tennygrove to be available soon.
